education

In terms of academia, I attended high school on Lopez Island, graduated co-valedictorian with two other wonderful people, and the next year went on to college in Bellingham, Washington. I am currently a student of Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, but as of now I have not decided on a major. I am studying anything and everything that takes my fancy, from anthropology to art to mathematics to political science. Outside of school I have trained in the art of Reiki and as a bird bander, among a few other relatively random things. I pursue art in my free time.

The world of computers is a different story. I taught myself basic HTML in middle school by studying the source code from other sites. I taught myself graphics design on the computer using Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. I ended up working on my own website (going from a journal to a biography to a portfolio) for four plus years, off and on as other parts of my life took control. Recently I have been given a chance to jump back into web design by my mother, an independent consultant.

the rest of my life

Lopez Island has had a huge impact on me. The rocks, the beaches, the trees and birds and sea creatures are all in my blood even if I haven't spent my entire life here. There's just something about it, that no matter where I go in my life, Lopez will always be my home.

travels

Lopez High School gave me some amazing opportunities for being such a small, isolated school. In my sophomore year I traveled to Nicaragua with seven other girls for two weeks. The following year I traveled to Japan with five of my classmates and a group from Anacortes for two and a half weeks. During my senior year I traveled back to Nicaragua with a different group of students. To go into each trip would take forever, so I will simply say that each trip drastically influenced who I am today. They were also extremely enjoyable and eye-opening.

inspiration?

I'm not much of a full-time artist, most of my time is spent doing various other things that fill my life. Most of my artwork is the product of class assignments or a few random outbursts of creative energy where I just HAD to do something about it. I don't really keep a sketchbook, I don't even doodle on my homework that much anymore. But I still love art. My inspiration is probably one of the most convoluted things in my life. I never know why it's thinking what it is, where it comes from, or when it'll show up. As a result of this inspiration I have worked in many different mediums: pencil, pen, colored pencil, charcoal, acrylic and oil paints, watercolor, sharpies, graphics design on the computer, scratchboard, embroidery, sewing, linoleum, pottery, block-printing, jewelry, and photography (perhaps a few more that have slipped my mind).
